Crystal City Mind

Object 2008

Crystal City Mind is a multi-faceted design object made from high polished high grade steel and matte black surfaces. During the course of this summer CCOORDINATION and DIEPHOTODESIGNER.DE toured the Berlin inner city with the sizable object, capturing impressions along the former Berlin wall. The images developed thereby show how rapidly Berlin has evolved in the last 20 years, as living old and new congregate.

Charged with impressions of Berlin, Crystal City Mind will now travel the world with London as it’s first stop, radiating these impressions to the cities environment. Crystal City Mind communicates a message from Europe’s most demanded city and in addition takes into consideration and mixed past and present. With this, the cooperative venture of COORDINATION and DIEPHOTODESINGER.DE is symbolic for that which makes the Berlin Design scene so unique: the breaks and edges, the interlacing of giving and taking, the old and new, snazzy, charming but incomplete and the desire to constantly change to a different perspective.

COORDINATION and DIEPHOTODESIGNER.DE have been working together for several years. Their work methods compliment one another in various aspects.

Perfection and sensitivity characterize the function of DIEPHOTODESIGNER.DE. Ken Schuchtmann and Dirk Dähmlow (both b. 1970), who have since 2001 specialized in architecture and design. Not only do they illustrate, but penetrate into their motives. From a long analogue and digital process emerges light and color which bestow upon their images an unusually deep plasticity. Some say they stage design like others photograph fashion. Internationally active architects and clients such as, Plajer Franz, Plasmastudio, BMW, VW, Puma, and Samsung have acknowledged them for years. Their work runs clear across the range of Design and Lifestyle press. Thus in the past years innumerable images for Wallpaper, AD, Vogue, Frame and several other magazines have arisen.

Creative Spree Shanghai

Exhibition for the Shanghai International Creative Industry Week 2007

To celebrate this year's Shanghai International Creative Industry Week, CREATE BERLIN will be presenting a large scale exhibit showcasing selected Berlin design works. COORDINATION has conceptualized, organized and executed the exhibition. The location is situated  in a converted former slaughterhouse in the northern part of the city, the HongKou District. In accordance to the character of the building, COORDINATION has conceived a design exhibit concept. The design calls for the winding meandering movements thought a space where continuously new insights and visual connections are made. This sense is implemented by the distribution of 5000 "Cherries" and "Cherrieblooms" which have been for this reason by KOZIOL provided.

Nintendo Wii-Crib Berlin

Loft Interior Berlin-Kreuzberg

For the promotion of their new game console called Wii, Nintendo rented an empty 120 sqm apartment in Berlin Kreuzberg, where people could go and test it before the official launch date on December 8th, 2006
COORDINATION transformed the space into a stylish design environment for the Wii gamers that complements the innovative design of the console and the progressive interface concept. The Wii Crib became a cozy yet animating loft with carefully chosen furniture and accessory pieces from the design range of COORDINATION's Flip Sellin, such as the 'Nullserie' low seats, the 'Twiggy' curtain made of hundreds of little coloured felt elements or the 'Lockheed' chromed steel bench.
Special eye-catching features placed all over the apartment are murals in different sizes, by the Berlin-based Swiss graphic design duo jacquesetbrigitte.com. Thanks to the success of this promotional event, Nintendo decided to extend to open Berlin Wii Crib two months longer until March 26th, 2007.

Rooms Interior

Design Store WMF-Haus Berlin

Set in the Leipziger Strasse in optimum location directly across the Museum for Communication at the corner of Mauerstrasse, the noble and amply designed store „Rooms Interiors“ has opened in the WMF house. Exclusively selected furniture and sophisticated domestic accessories are presented on a 480+ sqm area. The store furnishings, minimalist in formal language and constistent in white, make an ideal stage for special but also classic design objects. In the spacious front part of the store, luminescent podiums with satin glass plates expand the store window area into a large presentation area. Other 1x1meter podium elements - accessible and depending on the respective need also stackable - structure the space and create a kind of „catwalk“ for furniture. Integrated into the walls are long stretching retail vitrines, dynamically following the course of the space and effectively accentuating smaller objects. The vitrine merges into the counter area – also white and laquered in matt finish - which hides all necessary technical equipment. The back part of the store with its low ceilings and the interplay of different light colors emanates a cozy private atmosphere. Here, the concept of the luminescent wall vitrine is reassumed in a 90 degree angle continuing around the corner. Elegant three-phase lighting tracks stand back in attracting attention, yet emphasizing spatial axes and connections. Two different lamp types, also design objects, allow for variable lighting moods. Thus, for and with Stefan Schad, COORDINATION has created a bright, luminous and very distinct shop, staging exquisite lifestyle.

Ambient Staging at the Stylepark in Residence 2006 "Storytellers"

"Welcome to the Monopol Hotel at the Stylepark in Residence in Cologne! Treat yourself to a change of scene in our Design Suite:

Serve yourself from the mini bar or indulge in an espresso. Lie down in bed for a couple of minutes with Monopol – to read in the newest issue of the magazine what you have to know about Prada in Texas, David Hockney and Thomas Zipp.
A piece of the Zipp-Edition as well as works by the artists Jonathan Meese, Wawrzyniec Tokarski, Martin Fengel und Jonathan Monk, all created specifically and exclusively for Monopol, adorn the walls of our suite. Who resides at the Monopol Hotel as guest, ascends to the heights of Art and Design – while comfortably stretching out his / her feet.
The Monopol Hotel Suite was exclusively furnished by Berlin Designers, as a room service in the Stylepark. And if you feel like throwing yourself back into the hustle and bustle of the fair, please do not forget: Sie haben noch einen Koffer im Monopol! (You still have a suitcase at the Monopol!)

A first-class hotel always tells a story. With their Monopol Suite at the Stylepark in Cologne, the Berlin design team „Coordination“ tells of their love for detail.
They tell that stories lie under the surface of objects – be it the sharp-edged Lockheed II Lounge or the leather covered bar stool . The visitor only has to engage with these stories and they will begin to unfold in the atmosphere of the suite. Namely because this is not only a classic hotel room, even if the carpet carries the monogram and the bed spread is adorned with an embroidery by the London artist Louise Riley. The Monopol Suite is a room of resonance. Here one can hear how Flip Sellin, Tilman Thürmer and Jochen Gringmuth of team „Coordination” imagine the world: “Art and Design, hosted by life.”

Monopol about the suite.

Interior Design for the Creative Headquarters of the Advertising Agency TBWA Germany

TBWA is one of the leading advertising agencies worldwide with 5000+ employees. For the new Berlin premises we took on the complete furnishing of the 1000 sqm office area with over 50 work stations.
Besides the work stations, consisting of side boards, personal containers and generous shelf space, the furniture package includes furnishings especially developed for the conference room. The design package was complemented by an expressive reception counter, a sofa landscape in the common area and various coordinated special furniture elements.
All furniture elements were developed specifically for this client in accordance with ergonomic and artistic aspects, after an in-depth analysis of the needs and a tuning to the existing space. The production of all elements was directly supervised, as was the installation and mounting thereof. The result is a friendly and well-organized office with a strong identity.
